Wumpe, Stroppe, Pamps?!?
What might seem like vocabulary taken from a textbook on extraterrestrial Berlin sass, is in fact the track listing of the debut single Wumpe/Stroppe by Weimar-based acid/but-not-quite-acid duo Irk Yste.
“Wumpe” stays true to its name. Its filter-heavy industrial beats draw us into a maelstrom of gloom, starting off the release in a rather dark manner. That is until the break reveals a silver lining on the sonic landscape’s horizon.
Almost seamlessly, “Stroppe” takes over the previous track’s wide-band sound aesthetic and carries on the mood with stoic tension. Yet in the end, all gives way to “Pamps”: a two minute hymn, played by a band of electro-mechanical creatures with a strong penchant for abstraction.
